Day 3/6 Northumberland 151km Circular Walk - Embleton to Bamburgh - 17 Mar 2008

>> Wednesday, 13 May 2009

A super movitating day ahead after a good night's rest and well scrubbed shoes. I realised how exhausted I was. Had fallen deep into LALA land last night on that cosy bed. I would love to stay in Inns every night, but just couldn't afford such luxury.

I couldn't say how much I love coastal walk. I passed and crossed sand dunes, strolled alongside the finest stretch of North-Eastern England's coast, taking every deep breath of sea breeze. A spring breeze lifted the swell of the sea into small white crests, with waves occasionally catching the rocks above. It was a great day as well, except that the wind was very strong and chilly. Fingers were frozen whenever I got them out of my pockets to take photos.

Left Embleton Bay and headed up further north. Looked back towards Dunstanburgh Castle once again. I wished to be there again. Passed Beadnell Bay, then Seahouses - a bustling harbour and seaside resort, famous for its kippers, fish and chips and boat trips to the Farne Islands. From Seahouses to Bamburgh, it was all beach walking. Do not underestimate beach walking. Though flat, beach walking can be tiring as the sand is soft. Care must be taken in case of foul weather or high tides.

And finally, Bamburgh! I'm here for the 2nd time. 1st time was with the Singapore Society during the Chillingham castle trip. But this time, I viewed Bamburgh castle from a different perspective. Came around it from the Eastern side (Seaward side), instead from the land side. Hence it looked rather unfamiliar at first glance. Some photo taking, then turned west inland. I bid farewell to the coast, and now it was finding my way to the campsite to spend my 3rd night.

The campsite (Waren Mill) was about a mile away. Facilities were available for a small cost of pitching my tent there. Looking around at the campsite, I realised there was only 1 other tent. Obviously only crazy people like me would be tenting out on a cold night like this. Pitched my tent, washed up, diary, and made plans for the next day. Was another freezing night out. Shivering really badly...Could hardly sleep for more than an hour...Started raining and maybe snowing? in the middle of the night. Nothing I could do...just wait for daylight to arrive and continue walking again!
